Vitamin D Deficiency on the Rise

Recent reports show that vitamin D deficiency is becoming an alarming worldwide epidemic. Vitamin D deficiency is increasingly being diagnosed across all ethnicities and all genders. I tend to drink a lot of Himalayan goji juice myself because it is chock full of alot of vitamins. All in all, people who live in northern latitudes (north of 35 degrees), or use sunscreen all the time, exercise indoors, or keep their skin covered are at greater risk for this vitamin deficiency. Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin. People who have certain diseases like cystic fibrosis, Crohn's disease and celiac are also at higher risk for vitamin D deficiency because these are diseases that cause a problem with fat absorption. As an aside if are looking for some Himalayan goji juice then I would suggest this resource as I have found Himalayan goji juice from Freelife to be a high quality.
Vitamin D is essential for maintaining optimum immune health as well as healthy bones. Normal levels of vitamin D are between 40mg/ml and 50mg/ml. Every cell in the human body has vitamin D receptors. Just recently vitamin D deficiency has been associated with heart disease, prostate and breast cancer, diabetes, depression, autoimmune diseases, hypertension, obesity, gum disease, chronic pain, muscle wasting, inflammation, birth defects, osteoporosis, influenza and colds. Scientists are only just beginning to understand the importance of vitamin D in relation to overall human health. Many health professionals are now recommending supplementation of to 1000 IU of vitamin D3.

The Three-Week Habit

Good to be back to Santa Monica. Did you know that researchers have found that you can make a new habit in three weeks? So make a three-week plan. Towards the end of the three weeks, read some articles on creative, healthy recipes and get yourself excited for the next three weeks. Good eating will become a habit, and you’ll find you even begin to prefer the food. For me personally, I started doing the healthy thing after my rotator cuff tear
because I realized it would help me heal faster. Many folks use prolotherapy and PRP as well. I think those of you who play sports and have had a rotator cuff tear or some type of shoulder arthritis rehab know how much a rotator cuff tear can take off you if you are not in shape to begin with. Restaurants are notorious diet-busters. Try to order the healthiest thing you can and have the waitperson bring you a box with your food. Before you even begin, take half of the giant portion they will nearly always set before you and put it in the box and set it aside. Treats and occasional desserts such as homemade or such things are fine; in fact satisfying a craving with a small portion of the desired treat will help you stay on track.Fit in 50 jumping jacks here and there. Fit in some stretching. Take a walk around the block. Working exercise in with little bouts makes it easy and it’s just as effective. For dinner, bake some chicken breasts with olive oil and spices. Steam some spinach and add some corn or a potato—but watch out—add spices and olive oil to the potato and forget the unhealthy margarine or butter. I also tend to like prolotherapy and prp treatments for many different kinds of rehab like the aformentioned rotator cuff tear. We have a good Prolotherapy Santa Monica doctor name Doctor Marc Darrow who specializes in both PRP injections as well as prolotherapy treatments overall. Anyway back to the main story: Every once in while it is alright to splurge on a naughty dessert item or two. Personally, I love, homemade cookies, pecan pralines and other types of praline candy such as New Orleans Pralines and also various types of gourmet cookies. Other than that, however, just remember to basically keep it fresh and simple in general.

Why Dental Floss is So Important

In some off topic health news, my ex-father-in-law, who was a dentist, taught me about the work of Dr. Charles C. Bass, who lived from 1875 to 1975. Dr. Bass knew that bacteria eat the plaque that adheres to teeth, and the bacteria release acids, which dissolve tooth enamel and destroy gum tissue. The toothbrush cleans surfaces that are largely self-cleaning. The trick is to get at the plaque and germs that get into the tiniest crevices and start trouble: They start on the tops of the teeth in the nooks and crannies that the toothbrush can’t get to; they start in between the teeth and along the gum line.
The toothbrush is good to gently (use a soft toothbrush and massage with a gentle, circular motion) clean along the gum line, but only dental floss can get in between the teeth! Dental floss—the magic bullet!!! The other helpful tool is the dental sealant, in which a coating is brushed onto the tops of the teeth (and the side) and forms an ice-skating-rink slick surface to seal off the grooves and pits. The dentist, an assistant, or a hygienist does this in a dental office. As an aside if you need a bergen county dentist northern new jersey dentist or perhaps even a bergen county cosmetic dentist or teeth whitening professional then check out this practice.
Always use a soft toothbrush. Hard brushing and/or a hard toothbrush can damage enamel.
If you had to pick only one tool to keep your teeth clean, I would suggest that you choose dental floss. There is no need for anyone to have cavities, abscesses, or gum disease. There is no need for anyone to end up with his or her teeth in a cup of water at night.
